Burglars stole more than $1 million worth of jewelry and valuables from the Encino home of Agency CEO Mauricio Umansky and his wife Kyle Richards last week while they were vacationing with their family.
Police said the job was the work of professionals who used a ladder to break in through a second-story balcony window and went right for the closets in the master bedroom of the couple’s $8.2 million home while they were away in Aspen, according to TMZ.
Richards and Umansky, who appear on “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” found a number of priceless personal items stolen, including Kyle’s wedding band and family heirlooms passed down from their parents.
The burglars also got away with $150,000 worth of Umansky’s watches, a pair of $100,000 earrings he bought Richards for their 20th anniversary and a number of designer handbags.
The crime appeared similar to burglaries of the homes of Mariah Carey and LA Dodger Yasiel Puig this fall, although police haven’t formally connected them.
A “misunderstanding” meant the home’s security system was left off, the couple’s three large dogs were gone for a five-week obedience course, and a surveillance system was turned off due to renovations, TMZ reported.
Umansky and Richards bought the 10,600 square-foot, seven-bedroom home in November for $8.25 million, making it the most expensive sale of 2017 in Encino. A renovation added a 1,600 square-foot guesthouse, swimming pool, spa and balcony. The home was at one time owned by R&B legend Smokey Robinson.
Umansky took to social media in defiance following the burglary, posting a series of Instagram photos of his family with a caption that included, “They can steal your belongings but they can’t steal your memories or your love.” [TMZ] – Dennis Lynch
