A Malibu home where two late Hollywood greats once lived — actress Debbie Reynolds and producer-director Garry Marshall — went on the market for $18 million.
Reynolds, the star of “Singin’ in the Rain,” built the 3,192-square-foot home in the 1960s. Marshall, best-known for directing “Pretty Woman,” and creating sitcoms like “Happy Days,” bought it from her in 1981.
His wife, Barbara Marshall, is selling the home, which is located on Carbon Beach, the exclusive enclave where homeowners include billionaire Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, the Wall Street Journal reported.
She said the beach pad, which has five bedrooms and four bathrooms and an oceanfront pool, served as creative inspiration for the director. “He’d go down to the beach, talk to the waves and get answers,” she told the Journal.
Reynolds, for her part, recalled in a 2013 memoir that she spent bucolic weekends at the house hanging out with Dick Van Dyke and Jason Robards, costars in 1967’s “Divorce American Style.”
Marshall and Reynolds had a longtime showbiz connection. Reynolds starred in the first film that Marshall produced, the 1968 movie “How Sweet It Is!” Then several years ago, she called the Marshalls to inquire about repurchasing the house. At the time, they were not interested in selling, his wife told the Journal.
Reynolds and Marshall both died in 2016. The Beverly Hills compound where Reynolds lived for a number of years with her daughter, Carrie Fisher, who died a day before her, went on the market last year for $18 million.
And the dance studio Reynolds owned in North Hollywood sold last year for $6.1 million.
