Jamison proposes 227-unit apartment building in Koreatown

Jamison’s Jaime Lee and the parking lot on St. Andrews Place

Jamison is at it again.

The firm filed plans to build a 226-unit residential building in its home turf of Koreatown, adding to more than a dozen big projects it has underway in the area.

Out of the 226 units, 25 will be set aside as affordable, according to a document published Wednesday by the Department of City Planning.

The commercial landlord-turned-residential developer plans to build the eight-story tower at 636 S. St. Andrews Place. An existing parking lot would have to be demolished in the process.

It’s also seeking a density bonus of 50 or more units, as outlined in the Transit Oriented Communities program.

A spokesperson for the firm declined to comment.

Jamison purchased the site in 2001 for $4.6 million, property records show.

The project comes just a few months after the firm broke ground on another large residential project at 1718 Las Palmas Avenue in Hollywood. There, Jamison is building a six-story apartment building with 224 units, 24 of which will be affordable.

In Koreatown, the family-led firm is converting several of its large office towers into multifamily buildings. Most recently, it filed plans to convert its 17-story office tower at 3255 W. Wilshire Boulevard into a 240-unit rental project. In all, Jamison has at least 14 multifamily projects currently under construction in Koreatown.
