Former Tribune Company CEO Eddy Hartenstein listed his sprawling Hidden Valley ranch home for $17.9 million.
He purchased the 23-acre property, which includes a large horse barn, in the unincorporated Ventura County enclave for $5.45 million in 2003. The L.A. Times first reported on the listing.
Hartenstein also served as publisher of the L.A. Times from 2008 to 2014.
The 9,000-square-foot house with Tudor-style exterior features was built in 1980. It has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a gourmet kitchen. Along with a carport and five-car garage, the property also has a swimming pool, cabana, lighted tennis court and recently remodeled two-bedroom, two-bath guest house.
The extensive equestrian facilities include a 24-stall, 17,000-square-foot horse barn, managed by a trainer who lives in one of the two apartments attached to a separate barn. An additional ranch house serves as lodging for a ranch manager, and a nearby building doubles as a 4,000-square-foot workshop and car collection storage.
The property is listed by Robert Werner of Keller Williams Realty.
While this may not be the case for Hartenstein’s ranch, luxury homes throughout the U.S. are taking longer to sell. Nearly three quarters of high-end homes are spending more than 180 days on the market, according to a recent report. That’s up from 59 percent in 2015. [LAT] — Laurie L. Dove
