Council OKs Jade Enterprises’ project in Fashion District

Jade Enterprises’ Director of Development Daniel Taban

The Los Angeles City Council has unanimously approved a 379-unit complex in the Fashion District, the second large residential project it has approved in Downtown Los Angeles in the past three months.

Planned for the corner of 11th and South Main streets, it will include 42 moderate-income units and roughly 26,000 square feet of commercial space, Curbed reported.

Developer Jade Enterprises, acting through an entity, first proposed the project in 2016.

Renderings from architecture firm MV+E Partners portray a sleek, eight-story structure with a courtyard in the middle.

Jade, led by brothers David, Albert and Benny Taban, has been on a residential tear recently. After many years of owning commercial space in Downtown, the firm is currently working on three other resi developments in DTLA, including the 154-unit “Emerald,” two-tower “Onyx” and the 159-unit “Topaz” building.

Jade’s approval in the Fashion District comes a few months after the City Council approved another mega-project nearby. Dubbed City Market, the sprawling development will include 948 residential units, a 210-room hotel, a 300,000-square-foot school and 225,000 square feet of commercial space. The project, which is being developed by City Market of L.A., had been in the pipeline for over six years. [Curbed] — Natalie Hoberman
