WeHo commission pushes forward mixed-use project with hotel focus

The small stretch of La Brea Avenue that belongs to West Hollywood is one step closer to a major facelift.

WeHo’s planning commission unanimously approved CIM Group’s plan to build a 100-foot, nine-story mixed-use complex at 1040 N. La Brea Ave., Curbed reported. The project would include 85 hotel rooms, eight apartment units and 4,000 square feet of restaurant space. An auto body repair shop currently stands there. The new building would also have a fifth-floor amenity deck and 103 parking spaces.

Neil Denari of the NMDA architecture firm designed the project, which features “metallic silvery grey” metal panels on the building’s exterior with accents of perforated metal and glazed ceramic tiles. The commissioners raved about the design, calling it “exceptional architecture,” WeHoville.com reported.

Plans originally called for 91 hotel rooms, but they were scaled back somewhat during CIM’s pitch to the city’s design review subcommittee. The project is now headed to West Hollywood’s five-member city council for consideration.

The council recently approved the Arts Club project on the Sunset Strip. Developers London & Regional Properties are set to construct a 120,000-square-foot, nine-story building on the site of the Hustler adult store at 8920 Sunset Blvd.

CIM Group has been busy around the region this year. Last month, Los Angeles’ planning commission approved the group’s plans to build Sunset Gordon Tower, a 299-unit structure in Hollywood. They also plan to build an eight-story office building at 926 Sycamore Ave., and a 78-key hotel on the Westside at 2545 S. Mansfield. [Curbed] — Gregory Cornfield
