LA’s biggest construction permits in September

MGA Entertainment Isaac Larian with renderings of 24 (Uncommon)

The biggest construction permits in Los Angeles for September included a hotel in Hollywood and two airport properties.

Developers secured permits valued at $102.8 million for 538,400 square feet of space.

The total dollar amount was below August’s $149.6 million but far above July, which was just $64.2 million.

The Real Deal analyzed permits within the L.A. city limits. They are ranked by dollar-valuation by the Department of Building and Safety.

1. 24 | $37.8M | 20060 W. Prairie St.

Development firm Uncommon, along with toy manufacturer MGA Entertainment, secured a permit for a 204-unit apartment building and six-story parking garage in Chatsworth. The permit is valued at $37.8 million. The five-story, 224,300-square-foot property is part of a larger project on the MGA campus. Dubbed 24, because it will encompass 24 acres, that sprawling project will become the toy manufacturer’s new headquarters.

2. Selma Hotel | $24.8M | 6516 West Selma Ave.

Miramar Capital secured a permit, valued at $24.8 million, to build the seven-story Selma Hotel in Hollywood. The 79,000-square-foot property will have 212 rooms, and a rooftop deck swimming pool. There will be restaurants on the ground and top floors. Steinberg Hart Architects is designing the project at 6516 West Selma Avenue.

3. Van Nuys Airport Expansion | $15M | 16444 W. Roscoe Boulevard

A new aviation hangar and office building will soon be a part of the Van Nuys Airport. LA City Airport secured a permit to build 125,500 square feet of new construction at the complex, set to rise at 16444 West Roscoe Boulevard. The permit is valued at $15 million. BatesForum is designing the addition. L.A. World Airports owns and operates Van Nuys Airport.

4. Delta Hangar | $14.5M | 7540 World Way

LA City Airport also secured a $14.5 million permit to build a new Delta airplane hangar at Los Angeles International Airport. The facility will span 108,000 square feet. The HNTB-designed property will rise at 7540 World Way. The new construction is part of a larger Landside Access Modernization Program, a multibillion-dollar program to help people travel to and from the fifth busiest, and notoriously traffic-clogged airport.

5. Alla Road Creative Campus (parking) | $10.5M | 12964 W. Panama St.

A joint venture between Continental Development Corporation and Mar Ventures secured a permit to build the parking component of the Alla Road Creative Campus in Del Rey. The permit is valued at $10.5 million. The four-story parking structure will feature rooftop parking, as well as a gym for the three office buildings on site.
