Trump says not to worry about him using an unsecure phone to call his real estate friends

President Trump is hitting back against a New York Times article saying he talks to his friends outside of the White House on an unsecured iPhone.

Trump took to his favorite medium—Twitter—to gripe about the story, according to Politico.

“The so-called experts on Trump over at the New York Times wrote a long and boring article on my cellphone usage that is so incorrect I do not have time here to correct it,” he tweeted. “I only use Government Phones, and have only one seldom used government cell phone. Story is soooo wrong!”

Trump often uses an iPhone to call his friends and gossip, complain or get feedback on how he is doing, potentially exposing him to surveillance from Russian or Chinese spies, according to the Times. Among those on the list are Blackstone Group CEO Stephen Schwarzman and casino owner Steve Wynn. The Chinese are reportedly interested in making sure the trade war between them and the United States does not intensify.

The president has previously said it would be too inconvenient to change the phones he uses for Twitter more frequently to increase his phone security. [Politico, NYT]   – Eddie Small
