New details have been revealed for the striking 53-story mixed-use tower slated for Downtown Los Angeles. One thing is clear: the condominiums are not for the faint of heart.
New interior and exterior renderings of the Fifth and Hill tower show dramatic cantilevered decks on the upper floors that resemble Jenga blocks. The renderings reveal the glass-bottom pools planned for 12 condos between floors 39 and 51, as planned by developer Jeffrey Fish since he first revealed the project in 2016.
There are other cantilevered terraces throughout the tower as well. Fish’s JMF Development Company said in a press release that neither pools nor terraces would extend over public right-of-ways.
The new renderings coincide with the release of a Department of City Planning Draft Environmental Report for the project that includes two options for the design of the tower. The project is called Fifth and Hill for its cross streets at the northeast corner of Pershing Square, which is slated for its own mega-project: Angels Landing.
The first version has 190 hotel rooms, 31 condominiums, about 6,100 square feet of meeting space, a 30,000-square-foot restaurant and parking for 126 vehicles.
The latest has no hotel, but 160 condos, similar amenities, a 20,000-square-foot restaurant and parking for 187 vehicles. Both are a total of 260,689 square feet.
The residential portion would rise above a podium, separated from the podium by an open multi-story “sky lobby” on the 13th floor. Miami-based Arquitectonica designed the project.
JMF says a preliminary timetable has the project opening in 2023.
