Support is growing for the proposed mixed-use complex in Baldwin Hills that would become the new headquarters for Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.
The 220,000-square-foot project won approval from the Los Angeles Planning Commission this month, UrbanizeLA reported. The two new facilities – one three-story and one six-story – would spread across 3.6 acres at 6000 W. Jefferson Boulevard, near the Expo Line.
The six-story building will contain 90,000 square feet of office space. The shorter building will have almost 54,000 square feet of manufacturing space for coffee roasting, and nearly 51,000 square feet of warehouse space. Plans also call for a 2,200 square-foot drive-thru coffee shop.
The project was designed by Beverly Hills-based Jack Hollander & Associates. Construction is expected to begin in January and last almost three years.
Coffee Bean bought the Jefferson Boulevard land from the city, which used it for vehicle and container storage for about 12 years.
The Los Angeles-based coffee shop chain is planning to leave its offices in Miracle Mile at the Wilshire Courtyard complex, where it has been since 2015. [Urbanize] – Gregory Cornfield
