Hotelier lists estate once owned by Fred Astaire dance partner for $36M

Hotelier Edward Slatkin has listed his estate in the ritzy Holmby Hills, a home with deep Old Hollywood roots.

Slatkin, one of the owners of the Shutters on the Beach hotel and Santa Monica’s Casa Del Mar, is asking for $36 million for his 1.8-acre compound on Ladera Drive, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The French Normandy-style mansion was built in 1925 and includes four bedrooms and a third-story studio. The property features a greenhouse, two guest cottages, garage parking for five cars and a personal training gym.

Sumner Hunt designed the home, which was updated by interior designer Thomas Beeton. Records show the home was owned by Barrie Chase, an actress and frequent dance partner to Fred Astaire.

Slatkin and his wife bought the property in the late 1990s and renovated the home. They added a new master wing, a chef’s kitchen and a two-story pool pavilion with vaulted-beam ceilings and a wet bar. The master bedroom has a terrace and a double bathroom. A dining room leads to garden terraces and a glass conservatory.

The listing is shared by Sharona Alperin of Sotheby’s International Realty and Ron de Salvo of Coldwell Banker.

Holmby Hills has seen a few other high-priced listings this year. In September, embattled developer Robert Shapiro relisted his 10-acre Owlwood Estate in Holmby Hills for $115 million – $65 million less than he originally sought. Gary Wilson, the former chairman of Northwest Airlines and CFO of Disney, listed 2.2 acres of land in Holmby Hills for $35 million that same month. [WSJ] – Gregory Cornfield
