Door manufacturer-turned-developer plans 118 units in Central-Alameda

Tal Hassid is expanding his door empire with another residential real estate project.

Hassid, the CEO of ETO Doors, has filed plans to convert an existing warehouse in Central-Alameda into a 118-unit multifamily complex that caters to “artists in residence,” according to the Department of City Planning.

This marks the second real estate project proposed by Hassid in the last six months.

Hassid filed for approvals through an LLC named Luxe Holdings, which he controls with Alona Hassid.

The custom-door king bought the building, found at 4851 South Alameda Street, in 2016 for $21.85 million, property records show. Central-Alameda is located in South L.A., just east of South Park.

The structure currently holds a 256,000-square-foot warehouse, leased by a fabric store called Mybecca.

Details regarding the artist aspect of the project remain scant on filings. Hassid did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In June, Hassid filed plans to add two stories to his company’s manufacturing warehouse in the Arts District to create an eight-story live-work complex. The building at 1340 East 6th Street would hold 193 units and 256,000 square feet of commercial space.

Both projects are a departure from his main gig — ETO Doors. There, he offers “the largest selection of doors west of the Mississippi” for online purchase, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal.
