Sandstone Properties is hoping to take advantage of the tech and office resurgence in Culver City with a boutique hotel project.

The Los Angeles-based firm plans to build a 175-room hotel, rising at 11469 Jefferson Boulevard, Urbanize reported. The five-story building would also include restaurant space. It would replace a 12,600-square-foot strip mall.

The project is designed by Nakada Partners, but the developer has not submitted an application to the city yet. Sandstone purchased the site in 2014 for $4.6 million, records show.

Earlier this month, HBO leased 240,000 square feet at the Ivy Station complex in Culver City, which will also include 200 apartments and a 148-room hotel with shops and restaurants.

Apple has more than 275,000 square feet of office space in Culver City, and Amazon also has a big presence. One of its leases is for 500,000 square feet at Hackman Capital Partners’ Culver Studios and the other is for 75,000 square feet at the Culver Steps project. Mobile game developer Scopely also doubled its footprint in Culver City this month.

Sandstone is building The Albany hotel that’s set to have 730 rooms in Downtown Los Angeles. Its Culver City project would add to the flood of hotel developments in Los Angeles, most of which are set for Hollywood and Downtown L.A. [Urbanize] — Gregory Cornfield
