Cedars-Sinai’s new hospital in Marina Del Rey will triple size of existing facility

Cedars-Sinai health system is poised to begin construction on a hospital that will nearly triple the size of its existing facility in Marina Del Rey.

Cedars-Sinai will build a 269,000-square-foot hospital that will eventually replace the 96,000-square-foot, 145-bed Marina Del Rey Hospital, according to a recent filing.

The new nine-story facility at 4650 S. Lincoln Boulevard will have up to 160 beds. Construction is expected to begin in March and be completed in 2025.

Cedars-Sinai purchased the existing hospital in 2015 for $25.3 million, along with its medical and administrative offices. The seller was a partnership led by Los Angeles investment firm Westridge Capital. The 60-year-old Marina Del Rey Hospital has struggled to meet seismic-retrofit regulations, as have many older hospitals in the state.

A spokesperson for the health system did not disclose the construction cost. A general contractor for the project has not been selected.

In recent years, Cedars-Sinai health system has created affiliations with Torrance Memorial in the South Bay and Tarzana Hospital in the San Fernando Valley, among others. In April, Cedars-Sinai increased its administrative space at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood to more than 100,000 square feet.
