A luxury home in Malibu’s Point Dume neighborhood has traded for $52 million in an off-market deal, The Real Deal has learned.
The sale of 6970 Wildlife Road was recorded on Nov. 22, according to a property document. The seller was a limited liability company linked to attorney Stuart Liner and spouse Stephanie Hershey Liner. The couple bought the home in 2020 for about $22 million, according to listing sites and media reports.
The buyer was U2m LLC, an entity linked to Tom van Loben Sels, a partner at a Palo Alto-based tax consulting firm. He has worked with Mark Zuckerberg, a co-founder of Meta and Facebook, according to media reports.
There was no information on the agents handling the deal. The 2020 deal for 6970 Wildlife Road was handled by Chris Cortazzo of Compass and Drew Fenton, currently of Carolwood Estates. Emails requesting comment from both agents were not returned.
Press reports and descriptions on listing sites state that 6970 Wildlife Drive offers amenities such as a tennis court and a pool on its grounds located on a bluff above the ocean. The home also offers floor-to-ceiling glass walls, which provides views of the Pacific. The 6,000-square-foot home is based on less than an acre of land. Reportedly, the home was extensively remodeled by the seller.
The house is adjacent to 6962 Wildlife Road, a property once owned by late night comedian Johnny Carson. The multi-lot compound held a record for priciest listing in the neighborhood. In 2018, it was listed for $82 million. The lots were split up, with the lot bearing the address 6962 Wildlife Road selling for about $26 million in 2019.
The previous priciest Point Dume sale in 2023 was for 28804 Bison Court, which traded for about $29 million. The enclave’s previous priciest sale of all time was 7061 Birdview Avenue, which sold for about $49 million in April 2022, according to research from Amalfi Estates and Susan Monus of Coldwell Banker. Both transactions were off-market.
Monus said one reason why Point Dume is pricey is that “most of the properties have approximately an acre of land. You have privacy.” She is a Point Dume resident.
According to a Redfin market report, the median home sale price in Point Dume was about $4.9 million in October.
