If you’ve ever wanted to own a concert hall, this might be your chance.
Pasasdena’s Ambassador Auditorium, a 1,200-concert hall and performing arts venue, will soon be up for grabs for $45 million, according to an announcement from Compass, which is marketing the property for sale. Agents Isidora Fridman and Lauren Rauschenberg are listing the property for sale on July 9.
It’s the first time the property, located at 131 South St. John Avenue, will be up for sale in two decades.
Harvest Rock Church has owned the 45,000-square-foot building and attached venue since 2004, when it paid $19 million, records show. In 2020, the church scored a $18.3 million loan through the California Municipal Finance Authority to refinance the building.
The church will be relocating, Pastor Che Ahn of Harvest Rock Church said in the announcement.
“Opportunities of this caliber are rare in the market,” Fridman said in a statement, adding the property could be sold to the City of Pasadena, or investors.
The auditorium, built in 1974 by architectural firm Daniel Mann Johnson and Mendenhall, is often host to orchestra and symphonic performances, high school graduations, corporate presentations and more.
The lobby of the building exudes decadence — rose onyx walls, African Shedua wood railings and ceilings in 24-carat gold leaf.
Theaters and performance venues in Los Angeles are often a target for investors. Earlier this year, 35 Hollywood filmmakers and actors pooled together $15.5 million to buy the Fox Village Theatre in Westwood.
Jamison Properties, a developer based in Koreatown, has also listed the Westlake Theatre, a historic building that sits on the edge of MacArthur Park, for sale. That property is slated for redevelopment.
