Former Warner Bros. CEO scoops up Santa Monica home

Former Warner Bros. CEO Cameron Strang has nabbed a Santa Monica home for $17.5 million, the city’s second-priciest deal so far this year.

Records show the music chief bought the property at 835 San Vicente Boulevard from Richard Hunter and Janet Hunter.

Shelton Wilder of Christie’s AKG represented the buyer and seller.

Strang previously served as chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Records before stepping down in 2017. Prior to joining Warner Bros, Strang was behind the launch of independent labels New West Records and Southside Independent Music Publishing, the latter of which was bought by Warner Music at the time of the executive’s appointment to CEO. Strang was also a co-founder in DMZ Records with musician T Bone Burnett and filmmakers Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

The home, built in 2022, originally hit the market for $23.5 million. It counts seven bedrooms and 12 bathrooms across 12,379 square feet.

Highlights include a retractable ceiling in the home’s sitting room, pool, koi pond, chef’s kitchen, wine cellar and spa.

The deal is second in dollars behind Santa Monica’s largest trade so far this year in which the home at 518 Georgina Avenue sold for $19.2 million. Former Golden State Warriors General Manager Bob Myers and his wife bought the seven-bedroom, 11-bathroom property from former Guthy-Renker CEO Bennet Van de Bunt and Laura Livingston Fox.

Santa Monica accounted for two of the dozen high-tier contracts signed in Los Angeles County last week, according to a report from Eklund-Gomes looking at residential properties listed for $4 million or more. Those contracts include the three-bed, four-bath home at 1002 Alta Avenue, which is listed for just under $7 million. The other is a four-bed, three-bath property at 213 16th Street, with an asking price of $5.2 million.
