Lennar wants to build 260 townhomes on more than 16 acres in Torrance.
The Miami-based developer has filed plans to build the complex at 3405 West Carson Street and 21405-21515 Madrona Avenue, near Del Amo Fashion Center mall, Urbanize Los Angeles reported.
They would replace an unspecified number of commercial buildings and a parking lot.
Plans include 37 four- and five-story buildings with an unspecified amount of parking and open space.
The Fashion Square at Del Amo, as the project is known, would include two-, three- and four-bedroom for-sale townhomes.
The gray and white complex, designed by Irvine-based KTGY and Woodley Architectural Group, based in Santa Ana, has parapet roofs, fiber cement horizontal siding, inset balconies and ground-floor garages.
For visual pop, the multi-toned complex will have mustard-colored doors and accents, according to a rendering.
Landscaping would take up a quarter of the site, including a private park at the northeast corner and a 14,500-square-foot central courtyard.
Pending approval, construction off Madrona Avenue, between Fashion Way and West Carson, is expected to take 41 months.
Developers have also targeted properties on the west side of the mall for housing, including a recently completed senior complex across Hawthorne Avenue and a proposed 200-unit apartment complex next door, according to Urbanize.
Lennar, founded in 1954, has built more than 1 million homes in 26 states, according to its website.
