President Trump might not be much of an Angeleno favorite, but as he descends on the city for a lavish fundraiser, he can still count on his deep-pocketed real estate friends.
Trump will be the guest of honor for a reelection campaign fundraiser tonight at the Beverly Hills home of Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Ed Glazer.
Glazer, who is also president of the family-run commercial real estate firm First Allied Corp., was a likely candidate for the gig. He donated $250,000 to Trump’s Inauguration Committee and is believed to have thrown in an extra $50,000 to the Trump Victory Committee, TMZ reported.
He and his wife acquired the 19,300-square-foot estate in Beverly Park for $22.7 million, the Los Angeles Times reported. They also own a nine-acre compound in Montecito, purchased for $21.5 million in 2015.
The fundraising dinner is expected to bring in $5 million for the expected 2020 reelection campaign, along with various Republican National Committee projects. It is being hosted by RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, national finance chairman — and Chicago Cubs part owner — Todd Ricketts and deputy national finance chairman Elliott Broidy.
Contributions start at $35,000 and climb up to $250,000. Those wanting to cozy up to the president for a photo op will have to dish out $100,000 per couple, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Broidy, a major Republican backer and the dinner’s co-host, has been the subject of controversy after a series of leaked documents that revealed his involvement with foreign governments in the Middle East. On Monday, he wrote on Twitter that agents for Qatar hacked his email and are “peddling lies.”
Tom Barrack, another real estate magnate and Trump backer, will not attend tonight’s dinner, a spokeswoman told Variety. The Colony NorthStar chairman hosted a Trump fundraising event in May 2016, but has also been critical of the president.
In his first visit to the Golden State, Trump will stay at the recently opened InterContinental Hotel at the 73-story Wilshire Grand in Downtown L.A., according to several reports.
