Businessman Matt Cooper has won approval to build a 10-story office building in Hollywood.
Cooper, a Hollywood filmmaker, received a nod from the Los Angeles City Council to construct the 150,000-square-foot tower at 1000 North Seward Street, in the Hollywood Media District, Urbanize Los Angeles reported. It would replace two commercial buildings and parking lots.
Plans call for a 10-story building with 137,000 square feet of offices and 13,600 square feet of ground-floor shops and restaurants. An above-ground and underground parking garage would serve 310 cars.
The 155-foot-tall building, designed by Hawkins/Brown Architects, will feature a series of three stepped stacks of floors with terrace decks, wrapped with metal panels and decorative fins.
The office complex, four years in the making, will include a pocket park and plaza.
Cooper also plans to build an eight-story office building at 1235 Vine Street, in Hollywood, according to Urbanize.
In July, Cooper and Sherman Oaks-based MGMT Partners upgraded plans for a four- and seven-story grocery store and apartment complex in Burbank, also designed by HawkinsBrown.
Cooper’s Post Group and Plus Development are also working to build a 100-room hotel with 82 apartments designed by HawkinsBrown on Cahuenga and Sunset boulevards in Hollywood.
While the Los Angeles office market has struggled during a shift to remote work since the pandemic, several developers have pushed ahead with plans for offices in Hollywood, often in tandem with new film production facilities, according to Urbanize.
Onni Group and Bardas Investment Group have projects in the works nearby, and Hudson Pacific Properties hopes to add new soundstages to the Sunset Las Palmas Studios campus.
