Josephine and Anthony Antoci, the owners of upscale supermarket chain Erewhon, sold a Malibu mansion for $15.5 million, The Real Deal has learned.
The property, a “beachfront retreat” at 31228 Broad Beach Road, is a six-bedroom, five-bathroom home built in the 1950s, a Zillow listing shows. The deal for the mansion closed on March 27, according to a deed filed in Los Angeles County records. The buyer is a limited liability company tied to David Bolour, the head of commercial property firm AND Asset Management.
The Antocis are longtime Malibu residents, according to a previous story from Robb Report. They bought the Broad Beach Road home for $10.6 million in December 2020.
The deal comes just months after the couple bought 31284 Broad Beach Road, which is just a few doors down the road. In September, the Antocis bought the “ranch-style” mansion from nursing home mogul Lee Samson in a $20 million deal. The transaction included plans for a Richard Landry-designed mansion that spans 10,000 square feet.
Erewhon, which has been described as “Everyone’s Favorite Grocery Store Hot Spot” and “America’s buzziest grocery store,” takes its name from a Samuel Butler novel. Celebrities spotted in the aisles include Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Dakota Johnson and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The chain’s first location in Boston, which opened in the 1960s, is considered one of the first natural food stores in the country, according to the New York Times.
The Antocis bought Erewhon’s last remaining store on Beverly Boulevard in 2011. Since then, the brand has branched off to a total of nine locations, the newest of which is a store in Culver City, which opened last year.
In 2021, company executives told the Los Angeles Times that there are plans to expand the brand outside of Los Angeles County. At the time, the company said that it plans to open as many as 20 stores.
The Antocis could not be reached for comment.
