Shohei Ohtani has hit a double — paying $7.85 million for a modern home in La Cañada Flintridge, with only a 20-minute drive to Dodger Stadium.
The Japanese-born Dodgers slugger bought the 7,300-square-foot home at 4245 Chula Senda Lane, after knocking $500,000 off the asking price, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing real estate records and an unidentified source.
The seller was comedian Adam Carolla, who bought the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom home in 2018 for $7.33 million. He first listed the home in June for $8.99 million, then dropped the price to $8.35 million.
The purchase comes five months after Ohtani inked a 10-year contract with the Dodgers worth $700 million. It comes a month after the 29-year-old pitcher announced his marriage to Mamiko Tanaka.
At $7.85 million, their new home is among the priciest in the foothill city 13 miles north of Chavez Ravine, according to the Times.
The three-story house, built in 2013, sits on nearly an acre south of the 210 Freeway.
Its black on white exterior leads into a “Mid Century-inspired” interior made of stone, glass and wood, lit by skylights and clerestory windows.
Highlights include a kitchen with custom cabinets, an indoor-outdoor living room, plus a movie theater, sauna, gym and a basketball court. The master bedroom has a balcony and spa tub.
Pocket doors lead outside, where a lounge looks out onto a swimming pool, spa and lawn.
Broker Peter Owens of Douglas Elliman held the listing. Broker Jeanne Valvo of Coldwell Banker Realty represented Ohtani in the deal.
After six years with the Angels, Ohtani became the face of the Dodgers in October, when he signed his historic contract, believed to be the largest in sports history, according to the Times.
In March, the Japanese superstar made headlines when his representatives accused his translator, Ippei Mizuhara, of massive theft tied to placing bets with an illegal bookmaker.
Ohtani is also designing a 5,000-square-foot home in Hapuna Estates, a gated community within the Mauna Key Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii.
