Newmark has snagged a top executive at CBRE with a background in multifamily to run its real estate office in West Los Angeles.
The New York-based brokerage hired Dean Zander to serve as vice chairman for its hub in Century City, the Commercial Observer reported. He starts this month.
Zander brings to Newmark over three decades of multifamily experience in Southern California, closing deals on nearly 58,000 units worth a combined $11.9 billion.
In his role at Newmark, he will spearhead institutional apartment sales in Southern California, he said on his LinkedIn page. Terms of his employment were not disclosed.
“Newmark’s multifamily business is experiencing significant growth, and bringing on [Zander], one of the best in the industry, enhances our ability to meet evolving market demands and deliver exceptional results,” Chad Lavender, president of capital markets for North America at Newmark, said in a statement.
Zander was hired away from Dallas-based CBRE, where he worked for seven years, most recently as executive vice president.
He had previously worked at Berkadia, where he spent 17 years, mostly recently as the firm’s senior managing director for its Los Angeles office.
For 24 years, Zander has ranked among the top sales brokers at each company, according to Newmark.
Before that, the UCLA graduate in math and economics had been a partner at Sperry Van Ness and had helped launch an apartment brokerage, since closed, according to his LinkedIn page.
In October 2022, Zander helped negotiate a deal for Rize Irvine, a 363-unit apartment building in Irvine, which sold for $190 million, according to CBRE, which brokered the sale.
