Restoration work on the façade of a future Hoxton hotel in Downtown is wrapping up.
The British developer Ennismore has removed the safety netting on the 10-story building at 1060 S. Broadway, revealing a crisp exterior with new windows, Urbanize reports.
There’s still plenty of work to go — Ennismore is converting the former headquarters of the Los Angeles Railway into a boutique hotel with 164 guest rooms. The firm started gutting the building last year and is still working on the interiors. It purchased the then-vacant office building for $30 million in 2015. The building dates back to the 1920s and has plenty of Art Deco charm inside.
The hotel is one of four in the first wave of Hoxton locations that Ennismore is building in California, along with hotels in Portland, Brooklyn, and Chicago, according to Urbanize.
The boutique brand operates four locations in Europe and calls its locations “open house hotels,” with bars and restaurants open to non-guests.
At the Downtown location, Ennismore is planning food-and-beverage venues with room to accommodate more than 550 people, including a 99-seat restaurant in the basement and a 108-seat restaurant on the roof, which will also have a pool deck and lounge, according to Curbed.
Despite concerns of oversupply, the Hoxton is one of severl boutique hotels coming to Downtown that include both new construction and conversions of its many historic buildings. BLVD Hospitality is building a 315-room new construction hotel on Spring Street.
Relevant Group recently added to its already ambitious plan to restore the Morrison Hotel in South Park, announcing it would add a 12-story building next door. [Urbanize] –Dennis Lynch
