The former home of late night talk show legend Johnny Carson got a price chop this past week. The 7,000-square-foot home on a Malibu bluff is now being marketed for $65 million, reflecting a 20 percent drop from the $81.5 million ask last October. Sidney Kimmel and his wife, Caroline, are selling the home. They purchased it in 1984 for about $46 million. Carson, who died in 2005, owned and resided on the property for more than 20 years. It includes a gym, locker room and indoor arboretum.
In the Hollywood Hills, actor Drew Barrymore has sold her longtime home for nearly $17 million. A Swedish LLC named Hillcrest AB bought the 8,000-square-foot residence last month in a deal that transacted off-market, records show. Built in 1957, the home has 18 rooms, including four bedrooms, as well as a guest house and swimming pool. The two-story home also features four fireplaces. Barrymore paid $4.35 million for the property in 2002, records show. Hollywood director John Bowab also once owned the estate.
The bidding war for a famous Studio City home is now officially over. HGTV paid $3.5 million to acquire the home used to film the exteriors for the hit sitcom “The Brady Bunch,” beating ‘N Sync star Lance Bass in the process. At $3.5 million, the studio paid nearly double the home’s initial asking price. HGTV will restore the 2,500-square-foot, two-story home, to the height of its 1970s appeal, and will even recruit Bass for help in the process, TMZ reported. Bass took to Twitter earlier this week to say he was “heartbroken” after losing the home to a studio, but later changed his tune, saying he was “pleased” that HGTV had emerged the winner.
Over in Splitsville, billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Gross and his ex-wife Sue Gross spent nearly $150 million in separate transactions on four homes in Laguna Beach in the span of one month. As part of her divorce settlement, Sue Gross was awarded a $70 million package of three homes the couple owned during their 30-year marriage, located on three adjoining properties within the gated Irvine Cove enclave in Laguna Beach. Bill Gross then paid $36 million for a home four houses away from Sue Gross’ residence. She then went on to pay $37.8 million for another property, while he went on to buy a $32 million house on Pacific Coast Highway, just about a mile away from his previous purchase.
