A developer of boutique hotels wants to transform the historic Palmer Building on Hollywood Boulevard into an 87-key mixed-use development.

Orange County-based Artist Guild Hotels submitted plans for the Prohibition-era Classical Revival building at 6360-6366 Hollywood Boulevard, complete with rooftop pool, terrace decks and a variety of dining and drinking venues, according to Urbanize.

The proposed overhaul comes amid the rapid pace of hotel development in Los Angeles, and as city officials push ahead with plans to improve Hollywood Boulevard’s iconic “Walk of Fame,” including widening sidewalks and constructing a bike path.

Architect Hilda Rodriguez will oversee a seismic retrofit of the building, which is more than 90 years old, and will design a new 10-story contemporary structure as part of the historic building.

The Palmer Building was constructed by one of Hollywood’s pioneering developer’s, Dr. E. O. Palmer, a founder of the local chamber of commerce.

Hotel development is also booming in Hollywood, where multiple projects are under construction. [Urbanize] — Tina Daunt
