Silver Lake’s most resilient developer still hasn’t given up.
Frost/Chaddock Developers has filed plans to include a boutique hotel in with a trio of buildings it wants to construct in Silver Lake’s Sunset Junction. The 94-key hotel would replace previous plans for an 84-unit residential building, Curbed reported.
Plans for the project first circulated in late 2011. Neighborhood opposition delayed it for several years, and it wasn’t until last May that developers filed a final environmental impact report.
The four-story hotel, to rise at 4000 Sunset Boulevard, will require a conditional use permit from the city, allowing it to be built near a residential zone. The entire project, which is still in the environmental review stage, will require final approval by the city.
Frost/Chaddock has already filed plans for two other mixed-use buildings on Sunset Boulevard. At 4100 Sunset, a four-story building would give way to 91 residential units, ground-floor retail and a rooftop terrace. Renderings depict a modern-style building with floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
The firm is also planning to build 109 units, and ground-floor retail at 4311 Sunset Boulevard. Ten units will be set aside for low-income residents. The shuttered Bates Motel is now on the property. It filed for a building permit at that address despite the fact that the development has yet to be approved after seven years in the pipeline.
