There it is: Casey Kasem’s Holmby Hills mansion finally sells

The longtime Holmby Hills estate of the late radio DJ legend Casey Kasem sold for $34 million, after lingering on and off the market for years.

The 12,000-square-foot property at 138 N. Mapleton Drive sold in an off-market deal, according to Dirt. It had listed for as much as $42 million in 2013 and was most recently priced at $37.9 million in February.

The 2.4-acre property includes a Regency-style home built in the mid-1950s that was renovated and expanded over the years. It now has eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. Kasem paid $1.7 million for the home in 1989.

The former “American Top 40” host died in 2014. What followed was a lengthy court battle over the property, pitting his widow, Jean Kasem, against his children from a previous marriage. The dispute was settled in 2019.

At some point after that, Jean Kasem reportedly planned to demolish the home and partnered with developer Phil Braunstein to construct a large modern mansion. But that never came to fruition.

Features include a heart-shaped swimming pool, along with 1,200 white rose bushes in the garden. Jean Kasem said her late husband had an “affinity for hearts.”

Holmby Hills has seen a run of sales over the last year or so. A home once owned by Elvis Presley sold in September for $30 million; and in December, Oaktree Capital founder Howard Marks bought a mansion in the neighborhood for $26 million.

The priciest listing in Holmby Hills is a massive estate long owned by the Hilton family, asking $75 million.
